And a great day was had by all.
Seriously, it was a great Carnival day despite the weather. The volunteers and stall holders got wet several times whilst setting up in the morning; but luckily the rain stayed off for the parade, and most of the afternoon.
On Friday the Fun Fair and the toilets arrived, while the volunteers started preparing the Weir Field
About 56 stall holders and 8 food and drink vendors set up on Saturday morning, with the first group “What the Pluck” opening the Carnival at 12.00.
20 groups assembled for the Parade, and set off at 1.00, much to the delight of the gathered onlookers.
The judges once again had a difficult job choosing the prize winning entries to the Carnival Parade.
First Prize went to Wroughton Junior School. Second Prize to the Farmers and Third Prize to the Gymnastics.
We were very pleased to have Fidel Nanto to present the prizes, he also judged the Paint a Flower Competition and presented the prizes to the winners Nimie Lyne, Martha Cox, Cheryl and Summer Smith.
The entertainment continued with Sackful of Sovereigns, Dave Woodford, the Red Barrows, free style footballer Dan Magness, Ukrainian Dancers, Lost Hills and finally Trois Amigos brought the afternoon to a bouncing end with their foot stopping music.
Not forgetting the dog show which proved very successful, and of course al the fun of the fair.
Lots of money was collected for many charities, look out for their stories next month.
So now the Carnival Committee start again for next year.
